Week 7 – Artist – Nan Goldin & Annie Leibovitz

Writer's picture: jinyoung yijinyoung yi

Annie Leibovitz' work described in one work for me is sophisticated. I remember seeing her work throughout social media a lot showing how detailed and professional her work is. For Leibovitz' work I am not really struck by any color, as for color most of her work feels very muted, but the picture is brought to life by the detail and focus in her photos.

Nan Goldin on the other hand has a very different style of portraits where it feels a lot more grungey and in the moment. It has a look of a very photo memory book and I personally love these types of portraits/photos. Of course there may have been many planning and thought that goes into in these photos, but they all have a effortless, yet interesting street photography esk vibe to them.

This photo by Leibovitz is a photo that I vividly remember seeing because of the extremely luring eyes that she was able to capture in this picture.

I absolutely adore these types of street photography/ in the moment pictures, so seeing a focal point and in motion background is something that I was lured into for this photo to be one that stood out to me.

If I were to hire a photographer, I would choose Goldin because I want to be taken back to the time I got these pictures taken. I do love Leibovitz photos, but the life that Goldin can emulate in her type of photography is the types of photos that I would want to treasure and keep as memories.
