Elsie de Wolfe

Le Corbusier

The two Artists I am going to talk about today is Elsie de Wolfe and Le Corbusier. Both of these amazing people had made such an impact on interior and architectural design that I don't think it is fair to not mention them in this project.

Elsie de Wolfe, born December 20, 1865, was the first American interior designer, which is such an important moment for today's interior designers. She was also known as a actress, but mainly her interior designs were where she made a breakthrough. At that time Wolfe was well known for her innovative interior decorating style. If you see the first three photos, you can see how feminine and whimsical her style was, which was not done much at that time. She used many light colors and had a skill of making a home very comfortable. Wolfe is one of my icons that I look up to because I want to make an area so well decorated that is still marked as my own style.

Le Corbusier is an architect, interior, and industrial designer. He is know for his minimal, yet chic furniture, shown in the last photo, and his interesting designs of buildings. His interest point was the use of pillars. If you see the 4th and 5th pictures you can see the interesting curves, pillars and geometric shapes he incorporates into his designs. Le Corbusier also made up a theory about Urbanism and Architectural Theory that emphasizes on the use of rooftop gardens and pillars and using the space as efficient as it can get, which I think is something that is so important at this time.
